Apps to measure diabetes

Hello, dear readers! Today, we are going to discuss something of extreme importance and that, unfortunately, is reality for many people: the diabetes measuring apps.

However, before we dive into the app world, let's understand a little more about diabetes.

It is a chronic health condition that affects the way the body metabolizes glucose (blood sugar).

It can be categorized into two main types: Type 1 diabetes, where the body does not produce insulin, and Type 2 diabetes, where insulin is produced but the body does not use it properly.

Now that we have an overview of what diabetes is, let's explore some apps that can make life easier for those living with this condition.

Indeed, this is an ever-evolving field, with new apps being released all the time. So let's get to know some of the best currently available!

Apps to measure diabetes

Glic

We begin our list with a genuinely Brazilian representative, who carries the seal of approval of the Brazilian Society of Diabetes. In fact, this already gives Glic a high degree of credibility and demonstrates the platform's commitment to quality.

However, Glic goes beyond a simple endorsement. What really impresses and makes us place it at the top of our list is its impeccable execution and the extensive list of available features.

Glic's interface is well-designed, intuitive and easy to navigate. It was designed to make the user experience fluid, which is a key aspect when it comes to an application used to manage a condition as important and serious as diabetes.

Furthermore, the breadth of resources offered by Glic is something that draws attention. This is not just a glucose monitoring app, but a comprehensive tool that covers many aspects of diabetes management.

Whether monitoring food, keeping track of physical activities, or recording blood pressure and weight, Glic offers a wide range of options for its users.

This breadth of functionality makes it a valuable and highly versatile tool in the arsenal of anyone managing diabetes.

One Drop

When introducing One Drop, it is important to highlight an obstacle that may arise for some users: the application does not yet support the Portuguese language.

This means that those who are not fluent in English or any of the other five available languages such as French and Spanish may find it difficult to operate the app.

This linguistic restriction is regrettable, especially considering the exceptional quality of the interface and how the application works. Indeed, One Drop is an outstanding example of intuitive design and smooth operation, delivering an exemplary user experience.

As such, if you're comfortable with one of the app's supported languages, One Drop is a treasure trove of features and tools. This app can be considered one of the most complete and comprehensive options on this list.

mySugr

Of the various apps we reviewed, mySugr stands out in a curious and playful way.

Furthermore, this app takes a fun and gamified approach to managing diabetes, which makes it a perfect option for those who might need a little extra stimulation, such as children and seniors.

However, not everything is rosy in the realm of mySugr. The app's visual organization can be a little confusing for some users. The layout of features and the density of information displayed can feel overwhelming at first.

Despite this criticism, mySugr still comes with a plethora of useful features.

It has all the features you would expect from a diabetes management app: logging of meals, medications and glucose levels, a quick-to-add food catalog (available in the PRO version), possible hypoglycemia alert, hemoglobin level estimation (HbA1c), and even graphs and statistics to track glucose levels over time.

Glucose Buddy

In fact, Glucose Buddy can be considered the oldest among diabetes management apps.

Almost the same age as the App Store itself, this veteran has stood the test of time, remaining a top choice for diabetes management for nearly a decade.

However, don't be fooled by its longevity. The advanced age of Glucose Buddy is not reflected in an outdated interface or functionality.
